GREETINGS FROM DUBLIN!

Happy St. Patrick's Day from Dublin!

Spring is coming, daffodills are blooming and when the sun comes out it has new warmth.....all good inspiration for new projects.  I have already made a trip to Germany to paint in a lovely apartment, where I enjoyed creating a Pompeian garden (CLICK HERE)

2006 passed in a whirl for me, with no less than six trips to Germany to paint in a newly rennovated boutique hotel in Kallstadt, south of Frankfurt.  In a picturesque wine town surrounded by rolling hills covered in vineyards, Cleo's Hotel & Cafe was a magical place to work.   As the building was centuries old and being totally gutted and redesigned, I worked to the accompaniment of hammering, drilling and banging, the workmens' radio, and constantly battling the dust - all of which I found exhilerating!  I ended up painting in all ten bedroom suites, on the staircase and in the restaurant and Irish pub, and it was exciting to watch the hotel gradually take shape and come to life.  The opening weekend was a wonderful celebration which I was lucky enough to be attend, and it seemed the whole town turned out to see the results of the owners' lifelong dream project, and within days they were welcoming the first guests.  After only a few months of business they already have returning guests, and I know much success is on their horizon.  To see some of my contributions to the hotel, CLICK HERE.   For more information about Cleo's Hotel & Cafe, CLICK HERE.

This year, as well as a return trip to Germany to paint for a new client, I have also been busy teaching lacemaking workshops, both at home in my studio and up in Co. Louth at the wonderful An Grianan College.   For anyone not familiar with that college, it runs a very wide range of courses, both Monday-Friday and weekend duration, and has a beautiful location by the sea, so makes a great way to visit Ireland in a different way.  Check out www.an-grianan.ie   The name means 'the sunny place' and even when the weather doesn't oblige, somehow, it is!

At home, as well as a weekly evening class, I am running workshops every few weeks, and also can arrange B&B accomodation, so any visitors to Ireland interested in lacemaking classes, please email me for details.

A new artwork gift I am launching for this year is a wooden keepsake box, approximately 12" (30 cm) wide x 8" (20 cm) high x 7.5" (19cm) deep.  It is made in pale beechwood and beautifully finished, with simple lift-off lid.  I painted the first one for my Godson's first birthday, as I was in search of something suitable for a boy and which could last.  Sean's box was so successful I have since painted others, for adult ladies in need of a treasure box for small collectibles and needlework tools.  So now these wooden collectible boxes can be ordered, custom decorated.  CLICK HERE for details.

I have plans for further lace pattern books this year and am producing new bobbin designs as well, so check back often to this website for updates.

Meanwhile, I wish everyone a healthy, happy and creative 2007.

Best Wishes and Happy Lacemaking,

Ann.
