CRAOBH
NUA
A set of original Bobbin Lace fans for the Millennium
designed by Ann Margaret Keller
This series of five fans is the first collection of original designs
for Bobbin Lace with specifically Irish theme. The concept began with
the illustration of some of the best known Irish myths from the ancient
cycle known as 'An Craobh Rua' (the Red Branch).
This collection, both in design and technique, forms a 'New Branch'
(Craobh Nua) in Irish lace.
The
fan patterns are presented as a set in a special folio publication
called "An Craobh Nua". This is a spiral bound volume containing
colour illustrations, prickings and instructions for all five fans
plus the story behind thier designs. Price: €16.50 plus p&p.
The
fansticks shown in the samples are a delux range handmade by Malcolm
Cox. The guardsticks on the 3 larger sizes are made of alternative
ivory, a
non-animal substitute material used much by miniaturists, and the
2
smallest sizes are of bone. Inner sticks are all handmade in wood.
All are
finished with a Swarowski crystal fastener at the pivot. These fansticks,
decorated by me with the designs echoing each fan design, may be ordered
from me, although lacemakers should be aware that there could be 6
- 8
months' delay on delivery due to Malcolm's busy schedule.
Fanstick
